Girls European Skate Camp

This is one of the most exciting things we have been a part of! Europe has a definite shortage of female specific skate camps… but all that is about to change! We’re stoked to introduce to you the Girls European Skate Camp 2012. The week long residential camps are open to girls of all ages and abilities and you’ll get to skate alongside and have tuition from amazing pro’s like Belgian rider Evelien Bouilliart (Hoopla Skateboards), Norweigian rider Kristina Westad (Rockstar Bearings) and UK rider Emma Richardson (Spread Eagle).

The camps will be held just outside Birmingham, UK giving the group easy access to loads of amazing indoor and outdoor skateparks – and you can expect to visit at least 10 different ones!!

The camp will run from Monday 30th July to Friday 3rd August - that’s 5 days of non-stop skating fun – and will cost £360 all inclusive. This means all your accommodation, food, tuition, park entry, you name it is all taken care of…

plus the best thing is that every girl who signs up for camp will receive an incredibly goodybag of product thanks to our wonderful sponsors worth over £150!!! You’ll get a Hoopla deck, Rockstar bearings, Bellows wheels, Popcorn beanie, Tech Deck skateboard, Shoe Goo tube + more!!!

Fishbourne Village Fete

We are working with hundreds of schools and councils in 2012 but its important to remember too, the smaller events. This Summer, Fishbourne Village will be throwing their annual Fete and Rubicon has donated gifts to the Raffle, the Tree of Fortune and some other fun attractions. Held on 23rd June, it sounds like it will be a great event with 5000 tickets available for the local communities.

Funds raised from the Fete go directly back into the local community through provision of much-needed resources for Fishbourne Primary School and financial assistance for the St. Peter and St. Mary Parish Church.

Immingham Skate Event

Immingham Town Council are providing 5 hours of skateboard lessons to 100 children in February Half Term. It’s going to be a great event and gives children the chance to try out skateboarding or improve their skills – with the help of the Rubicon instructor. There’s also an opportunity to win some free prizes by thinking of a name for the new skatepark.

Burham Park Launch

Rubicon recently helped out with the launch of a new concrete park at Burham built by Wheelscape. We were on hand to provide demos and so some teaching. It was a great event to promote the park and the official opening was led by the deputy mayor and the local MP. Pictures and newspaper cutting below from the mid November launch.

Rubicon Skate Fund Launched

WOW! This is one of the most exciting things we have ever done. The Rubicon Skate Fund is our chance to give something back to all the skaters that make the scene what it is – fun, vibrant, exciting. In a nutshell any boy or girl can apply for a share of £10,000 between £50 and £250 for anything skateboard related.

- you and your friends want to visit that new skatepark but need some petrol money for Mum? Apply for £50!

- planning on running your own local skate event but need to get some flyers printed? Apply for £100!

- looking to step up and enter your first skate comp abroad but need money for flights? Apply for £150!

- looking to produce a film about your crew of female skaters but need some supplies? Apply for £200!

These are all just ideas – it can be anything – all you have to do in return is provide a record of how the money has been put to good use, through a short write up and hopefully some pictures or video.

Education Magazine

Rubicon have a new flyer out for the Skateboard School and it is set to appear on the Back Cover of PIR Education magazine. With a distribution to 10,000+ head teachers, I think we can expect to see lots more skateboarding in schools in 2012. Really excited and we’ll also be helping the magazine run some fun competitions in next months edition too!

Voice of a Generation

We have been contacted by Dragonfly Productions to see if we can help find a skateboard boy, aged between 9 and 14 to potentially be the star of a new BBC programme. The boy would be the author a major new series about growing up in modern Britain and the idea is that the boy will film his life from his perspective – in the process becoming a voice of his generation and giving a unique insight into the life and times of a young person in Britain today.

They are looking for someone who’s aged between 9 and 14, who is talkative and engaging and who has the confidence to thrive on this opportunity. They think a skateboarder might be just the ticket.
We agree!!

BBC Live ‘n’ Deadly

Rubicon have been asked to provide coaching and demo riders for the BBC Alive ‘n’ Deadly Roadshow in September. The tour will be stopping at Horsham skatepark on Sunday 11th and Rubicon will be taking over the park to give tuition and demo’s with an audience of around 10,000 between 10am – 5pm.

The event is also going to be filmed so keep an eye out for us on TV in the subsequent weeks!!

Update:

Rubicon appeared on BBC TV as part of Series 2 : Episode 2 of Live N Deadly. We had a few great clips of the teaching going on – and then the main even with Geoff, one of the demo riders doing some seriously high ollies over obstacles for the crowd.

Awesome event. Huge fun had by all.

The clip was available to watch on iPlayer for a while but I think it’s gone now. But you can still go and check out all the info over here.
